Which currencies can I pay in? - USD with additional currencies being added soon. Can I get a copy of my receipt? - All receipts are provided by Stripe and are sent to those that provide their email during check out. Can I pay with any credit or debit card? - We accept all major credit and debit cards. Purchase restrictions may be implemented by your card provider or country of origin. Do the value of Credits ever change? - Credits have the same storage purchasing power as AR. Do you keep my credit card info? - No. ArDrive keeps a record of your public wallet address, the amount purchased and used Credits when purchases occur. When a Credits are purchased, ArDrive holds that balance of AR to cover the cost of data uploaded. Do Credits expire? - Yes. Credits expire 12 months (1 year) after the date of purchase. Can I exchange my Credits for AR? - No, ArDrive is not a crypto exchange and Credits cannot be returned or exchanged. What do I do if I lose my seed phrase? - You can still log in if you have your keyfile. If you lose both your seed phrase and keyfile, your wallet cannot be recovered. Can I use my ArDrive-generated wallet in Wander? - Yes. Where is the delete button? **ArDrive deleted the delete button.** All data uploaded to ArDrive is permanent and indelible. It can’t be removed by you or by us or by any third party. Think twice before uploading a file you wouldn’t want your great-grandchildren to discover. However, only files that you make public can be seen by others. All files that you keep private will remain private unless you share them with others. # What type of things should I put on ArDrive? ArDrive provides permanent data storage. It’s an ideal platform for storing photos, video, audio, Word documents, and other files you don’t want to disappear as technology changes. The permaweb changes the way humans keep digital data. Many different verticals are already benefiting from permanent data storage. - Family history - Academic papers and research - Legal papers and cases - Architectural drawings - Digital art - Original music - Journalists and bloggers - Digital archives # What type of files should I not put on ArDrive? Anything you wouldn’t want to be remembered for. ArDrive is about preserving essential archives, indelible memories and the best of human culture, not the worst. If you put a file onto the public portion of ArDrive, it will be public forever. Please do not upload: - Personal information that includes banking, social security numbers, phone numbers, passwords, etc. - Profoundly offensive or objectionable content - Copyrighted materials - Proprietary information # What kinds of files do you accept? We accept a wide variety of files including video (mp4, mov), audio (mp3, wav), photos (jpg, png, tiff), vector files (svg, eps, ai), documents (Word, PowerPoint, PDF) and more. You can even save some AR by uploading .zip files. If it’s currently on your computer, you can probably add it to ArDrive. # How do I upload more than one file at a time? With ArDrive it is easy to upload more than one file at a time. After you hit the ‘Upload File(s)’ button in ArDrive a browser will appear that allows you to select which files to choose from. Simply choose the desired files and then upload them. Upload limits depend on upload method, browser, and platform. If you accidentally choose the same file twice, ArDrive will catch this and ask if you really want to upload the same file twice. You will then have the option of declining the option to upload or proceed with the transaction. If you want to upload a folder from your computer to ArDrive, there are two options: 1. Zip the folder and upload that to ArDrive. 2. Use the 'Upload Folder' option from the NEW button. Permaweb data is cached and indexed by gateways & made retrievable just like downloading from the Internet. # Are there limits to the amount of data I can upload in one transaction? No, there are no data size limits on accounts. Feel free to put as little or as much on as you like on the permaweb. Whether you want to store 1 kb, 1 MB, 1 GB, 1TB or 1 PB – it is up to you! # Will accounts ever be made inactive due to non-use? No. You can upload a file onto the permaweb, and walk away from it for 1, 2, 5, 10, 50 years and it will still be there. You will never receive a message that your account is going to be closed due to inactive use or a missed payment. Think of it as your safety deposit box of data that you only have to pay for once. As long as you keep the key, you can always access it. # How do I share my public drive? One of the great features of ArDrive is sharing Drives with others. Yes, all of your public files are accessible through the permaweb & it's unique transaction ID. Use the [preview button](/help/using-ardrive-apps-actions-public-preview) to get the link to your data. The public preview button will load or stream any compatible data right into your browser. This includes music, movies and PDFs. When you click the public preview button, a new tab in your browser will open with the chosen file as a web page. The web address for the file will be located in the web address box of your browser. Arweave is a permanent blockchain. Whatever you upload to Arweave becomes immutable & can’t be edited or removed by anybody. Thanks to the [Arweave File System](/help/ardrive-as-a-platform-arweave-file-system-arweave-file-system), you can edit the metadata (name & location of your files on ArDrive). ArDrive will allow you to save a revised copy of the same file, and you will be able to see the history of your changes. Once your keyfile and password are verified, you will have access to your account and the data that you have stored via ArDrive. It is important to keep your keyfile secure, as anyone who has access to it can potentially access your account and the data stored within it. Additionally, your wallet can not be exported from the app, and cannot be recovered by ArDrive. Therefore, it is recommended to store your keyfile in a secure location and not share it with anyone else. **Seed Phrases:** A seed phrase is a sequence of words that serves as a cryptographic backup for your wallet. When you enter the seed phrase, ArDrive applies an algorithm to identify and generate your unique wallet (which you can download as a keyfile). You will be prompted to provide your seed phrase and password when you log in to ArDrive. Your password is needed to encrypt your wallet when you first start a session and decrypt your wallet for future access. Once your wallet is generated and your password is entered, you can then view your balances, interact with your drives, and make uploads. It is important to keep your seed phrase secure, as anyone who has access to it can potentially access your account and the data stored within it. The price of the base fee is set by the Arweave protocol code. ArDrive values Credits at 1:1 with AR when uploading. Prices for uploading in Credits are cheaper than uploading in AR because, while a Credit and AR token have the same value, a community tip is added on to all uploads paid for in AR Users can purchase credits through ArDrive, and then use them whenever they need to upload their files. **Note:** All file sizes are represented using binary units of measurement (i.e. 1 mB = 1024 kB). The price of an upload using Credits takes into account multiple factors like the file size, Arweave network data cost, and other fees required by the service. # Is the price of data consistent? Not exactly. The Arweave network protocol is always adjusting the data price to maintain sustainable, perpetual storage. The data price is lowered as the network increases its overall capacity. This can result in a fluctuating data price. However, for most files these fluctuations would only increase or decrease costs by fractions of a cent. --- # What Are The Privacy And Encryption Standards? AES-256-GCM is the current standard for top-secret military information. This makes it only possible for the content to be accessed by the person with that ‘private key’ (you) and the people that they share it with. # Can I make private files public? Private Drives can't be converted into Public Drives yet. But any _files_ in your Private Drive can be shared with anyone you want. No, Arweave is a public data protocol. Public files can never be made private. Once you have made a file public it will always be public. There is no way to undo this. **NOTE**: Sharing a private file with someone gives access to that file forever. # Can my public files be searched on the internet? Yes, your public files can be searched on the internet. We urge you to carefully consider what you want to make public, because once it is uploaded to the permaweb it will be there forever. # Can my private documents stay private forever? Yes, your private documents can stay private. The only way they can become accessible is if you move them to a public folder, where they become available to everyone, or if you share the file with someone else. --- # What Currencies Or Cryptocurrencies Can I Use To Upload? ArDrive is built upon and powered by the permaweb. Launched in 2018, the Arweave permaweb is an indelible, tamper-proof version of the internet. Sam Williams, the founding engineer of the ppermaweb, describes it as “a collectively owned hard drive that never forgets, \[and\] allows us to remember and preserve valuable information, apps, and history indefinitely.” The permaweb was developed by [Arweave](https://www.arweave.org/) with technology that is based on blockchains and distributed computing, the computer science innovation behind digital currencies such as Bitcoin. Three factors allow Arweave’s technology to be a permanent storage system: 1. _**Indelible Code**_. The Arweave protocol or the code is written in a way that does not allow anything to be deleted. 2. _**A Decentralized Network.**_ Instead of one centralized server that keeps all your data, files are distributed and replicated over a network of thousands of different nodes. Although one node will not necessarily store all the data, the data will be spread out countless times over all the nodes in the network to provide redundancy and rapid file access. As founder Sam Williams of Arweave explains, the permaweb “spreads the data across tens of thousands of places in the world and then makes it available from those locations, like the web, except censorship-resistant and permanent.” Even if one part of the permaweb goes offline, the remaining network retains the memory. 3. _**Storage Endowment**_. Like everyone else we need to pay someone to store the data. So how can a one-time payment cover the cost of storage for a lifetime or more? In most areas of life we are used to prices going up. However, this is not the case with the price of storage for data. It is very much the opposite as over the past 50 years the average annual rate of decline to store a GB has been 30.57%. The decline of storage prices has allowed the Arweave team design an innovate payment method to incentive storage over extremely long periods of time. The one-time up-front fee goes into an endowment where the interest on the fees will accrual perpetually and cover the cost of storage over time. In other words, the amount that a user pays upfront creates enough interest over time to cover the costs associated with paying someone to store that data perpetually. Just like a university or non-profit forms an endowment that creates interest to cover costs over time, the Arweave token creates interest that covers costs. Unlike those other endowments, the interest is covering costs that are declining and not rising. This design, in the end, creates a reward for the network (the people storing that data) that is greater than the cost to hold the data and maintain it—even over long periods of time. Even in the unlikely case that storage costs do not go down, the upfront free will cover 200 years of storage. Want to learn more? Whatever you put on the permaweb cannot be deleted by one single person or organization. The permaweb’s file storage method was created so that each data storage block cannot be removed by anyone – not you, not ArDrive, not Arweave (the creators of the permaweb), not the world’s best supercomputer. Furthermore, the Permaweb exists as a decentralized network. It distributes data to thousands of nodes which make it impossible for any centralized actor to remove the data from the whole network. A node may go offline, but the redundancy of the network keeps the entire repository of uploaded information available. Therefore, with no delete button and a decentralized network, any public information posted on ArDrive cannot be taken down by a third party. The data is not stored in any one single place. Instead, it is distributed across hundreds of different nodes throughout the world. Your private information is encrypted end to end, and can only be unlocked by you and those you share the keys with. # What is the uptime or reliability of ArDrive? The ArDrive Web App has had 100% uptime since launching our Beta app. We cannot guarantee this perfect track record, but even if the ArDrive Web App is inaccessible or has an outage your data is still backed up and available from other nodes on the Arweave network. Cloud storage providers occasionally go offline, but the permaweb is more like the internet: it can’t be turned off unless you power down every server globally. Even if we completely go out of business, your files will remain on the permaweb. Your data is safe for generations to come. A gibibyte and a gigabyte are sometimes used synonymously, though technically they are not the same amount of storage. They are very close in size, however. **One gibibyte equals 1.074 gigabytes**. One gibibyte is equal to 2^30 or 1,073,741,824 bytes. If ArDrive Web shows 502, 503, 504, bad gateway, network, resource, AR.IO, GraphQL, gateway, or frontend errors, the issue is often temporary gateway availability or connectivity rather than a problem with your files or wallet. ArDrive uses Arweave gateways to load account data, retrieve files, show previews, download files, and query drive, folder, and file metadata. During periods of heavy network activity, gateway maintenance, AR.IO routing issues, or temporary gateway errors, some requests may fail. These errors can appear while logging in, syncing a drive, opening a folder, previewing a file, retrieving a file, or downloading a file. The browser console is the best place to confirm what kind of error is happening and helps the ArDrive team troubleshoot if you need support. Common signs include: - 502, 503, or 504 errors - "Bad Gateway" errors - Failed network requests while loading account, drive, folder, or file data - Network or resource errors in the browser console - Gateway, AR.IO, GraphQL, or frontend errors # What to do - Refresh ArDrive and try again. - Wait a few minutes and retry if you are seeing 502, 503, 504, or bad gateway errors. - Try a different browser or private window to rule out cached frontend issues. - If the issue is with a file, try opening the file, preview link, or transaction ID again later after gateway indexing catches up. - If your drive looks stale after the gateway recovers, run a regular sync or deep sync. When you upload your files to ArDrive, they are sent directly from your device to the decentralized storage network called Arweave where they are stored on servers across the world. This process is not perfect, and sometimes your files do not appear on the network. Let’s demystify what this means and what you can do about it. # What is supposed to happen After a file is uploaded, the Arweave network cryptographically secures the file’s transaction and distributes it across the different servers (miners) that make up the network. The file ends up “mined” in a “block” and is permanently stored and freely accessed. End-to-end, this can take upwards of 30 minutes. - On average, blocks are mined every 2 minutes, but can sometimes take up to 15 minutes. - The miners building and maintaining the Arweave blockchain may periodically reorganize the transactions from last few blocks on the chain into different blocks (a.k.a. “fork recovery”), potentially dropping your transaction from the network history. However, each additional block added after the block containing your transaction, or “confirmation”, makes it increasingly less likely that your transaction will be reorganized into another block or dropped from the chain. Therefore, ArDrive waits for 15 confirmations before considering your transaction sufficiently “confirmed”. - Arweave Gateways have to index the transaction into a GraphQL index so ArDrive can find this file in the future. For “bundled” transactions like those that ArDrive uses to get you the best possible storage pricing, Gateway “unbundling” must take place before your transaction can be indexed and searchable by ArDrive. This process can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours during times of heavy network usage. After files are mined and indexed, they are accessible via ArDrive and visible on any Arweave [block explorer](/help/understanding-the-permaweb-general-block-explorers). # Tracking Upload Status ArDrive tries to track the status of each transaction in order to let the user know when their files are stored on the network. - Green status means the file was successfully replicated and mined on the network. - Orange status means the file upload transaction to the network has completed, but ArDrive is awaiting a sufficient number of confirmations and any potentially necessary unbundling to complete. - It could take up to 30 minutes for this process to complete, so please be patient. - Red status means the app believes the file upload transaction may have failed. - NOTE: If a file’s transaction is not mined or is dropped by the network, the AR payment made for this file is effectively “refunded” by the network. However, this is not the case for failed or omitted unbundling by the Gateway. # Troubleshooting “Red” Status While it does not happen often, uploaded file transactions may not be “mined” successfully during periods of high network congestion or dropped by the network during a fork recovery. This could result in a “Red” file status icon. We recently began packing all ArDrive transactions into bundles to improve ArFS reliability and reduce overall transaction costs for users. One tradeoff of this approach is that bundled transactions have to be unbundled by the Arweave Gateway, and this can sometimes take more time than expected. Soon we'll be making updates to the web app that will allow for more "unbundling" time at the Arweave gateway so that ArDrive transactions don't appear as 'failed' for the period of time that they are yet to be unpacked. If your file status is red, the transaction may have failed and your file may not be permanently stored on the Arweave network. Use `turbo-gateway.com/` plus your transaction id to see if your file made it to Arweave 5–15 minutes after you upload your data through the web. If your file fails to reach Arweave, the fees you paid for uploading this data are not spent, and the funds return to your ArDrive wallet. If the transaction later appears on the gateway but the file is still missing from your drive or its status stays red or orange, try manually syncing your drive. Using an Incognito Tab or logging out of ArDrive will clear your local cache of data, including files that have not been mined. If you log out and back in, the files marked red will disappear. # Using the Arweave Block Explorer A block explorer is another way to validate your transactions and their status on the Arweave network. Search your ArDrive wallet address to see every transaction you have made, or look up a single transaction ID to check whether it was mined into a block. Use deep sync when: - Regular sync does not find the missing files or folders. - Your drive looks incomplete or significantly out of date. - You changed gateways and wantArDriveto rebuild its view of your drive. - Support asks you to run a deep sync while troubleshooting. Deep sync can take longer than regular sync, especially for large drives, because it checks your drive history from the beginning. # When sync may not fix it If the gateway has not indexed the file, folder, or upload transaction yet, sync may still not find it right away. Wait a few minutes to a few hours and try again. Copy one affected transaction ID or data-item ID. 3. Load that identifier through another public Arweave gateway. 4. Compare what each gateway returns. # What the results mean - **It loads through another gateway but not through `arweave.net`:** The data is there, so the issue is with how that gateway is serving or indexing it. Contact the gateway operator through the [Arweave Discord](https://discord.gg/V8hzfpYJd). - **It fails through every gateway:** This points to transaction confirmation, upload processing, or data availability rather than a single gateway. Your seed phrase, private key, and wallet keyfile are not, and no explorer will ever ask for them. # Check whether an upload reached Arweave Copy the transaction ID or data-item ID from ArDrive and open it on a `/tx/` page. - If the explorer shows the transaction mined into a block, the data reached Arweave. - If the explorer cannot find it, the upload may still be in progress rather than failed. Blocks are mined every two minutes on average but can take longer, and bundled transactions have to be unbundled before they appear everywhere. ArDrive bundles uploads to keep storage costs down, so most ArDrive activity appears this way. # What an explorer will not show you - **Your Turbo Credits balance.** Credits are specific to ArDrive and can only be viewed there. Once you have this unique URL you can share it with others, embed it on a website or bookmark it in your browser as a record of your public permaweb files. **Warning:** Not all file types can be previewed in the browser. This password is never uploaded or stored off your device, ensuring nobody else can access your data, except for you and those who you share it with. **This password cannot be reset or changed if you make a Private Drive during your session. We will walk you through a few things that may be new to you compared to other apps in the signup process. 3. A 12 word seed phrase and keyfile are generated with the option to download the keyfile. 4. Write down the seed phrase & store it in a secure location. 5. Confirm the seed phrase by providing the words ArDrive asks for in order to download the keyfile. 6. Download your keyfile and keep it in a safe place. 7. Create and confirm a password that you will use with your seed phrase or keyfile if you create a private Drive. **NOTE:** The seed phrase cannot be recovered by anybody. If you choose to use AR, buy it through an exchange or swap service that is available in your region, then transfer the AR to your Arweave wallet address. Users can login to ArDrive with MetaMask, making it easy to get started with storing data permanently without needing a new wallet browser extension or keys to worry about. From [app.ardrive.io](https://app.ardrive.io), select Log In, and Continue with MetaMask. This will begin a process that generates a new Arweave wallet behind the scenes, that is safely and securely derived from your Ethereum wallet in MetaMask. You'll be prompted to connect the wallet to ArDrive and sign two messages through MetaMask. If it's the first time you're logging into ArDrive with MetaMask, you'll be prompted to create a password. **It's important to securely store this password, as entering a different password will prevent access to the newly created Arweave wallet. It cannot be changed or recovered by an administrator.** Users continue through the ArDrive onboarding steps and enter the app securely logged in with a new Arweave wallet derived from Ethereum keys through MetaMask. Users can write down or copy the seedphrase for the new Arweave wallet or download the keyfile. Users can skip this and continue to access ArDrive through MetaMask with the password created during setup. Once logged in, users can top up using their credit card with Turbo, or even send and spend AR from their new Arweave wallet. Want to export your Arweave key and store it in an Arweave wallet? Keyfiles can always be downloaded after logging into ArDrive by clicking your wallet address in the top right corner. These can be stored securely offline, or within Arweave wallet apps like Wander.io. --- # Log Into ArDrive Seed Phrase Canonical URL: https://ardrive.io/help/using-ardrive-apps-getting-started-log-into-ardrive-seed-phrase/ Category: Using ArDrive Apps Section: Getting Started Description: Log in to ArDrive with an existing seed phrase and your ArDrive password. ### Logging into ArDrive with your seed phrase is a secure way to log into ArDrive without having to keep a keyfile on your computer. 1. Go to [app.ardrive.io](https://app.ardrive.io/ "https://app.ardrive.io") and select ‘Enter Seed Phrase’ to proceed. 2. Enter the 12 word seed phrase in the order it was given seperated by a space. What is Wander? Wander is a Chrome browser extension that makes it easy to manage your digital wallet for ArDrive. If you’ve ever used MetaMask before, you’ll find Wander similar. Wander simplifies the login experience because your wallet is encrypted and safely stored within Wander. ArDrive can then securely access it as needed. * * * ## Get Started 1. Go to the [**Wander website**](https://arconnect.io) to download the Wander Chrome extension 2. Press on the ‘Download for Chrome’ button 3. You will be redirected to the Wander page of the Chrome store 4. Once at that page press the ‘Add to Chrome’ button 5. A pop-up will appear and please press ‘add extension’ and you will be directed to the Welcome page for Wander ## Download Wander We are now on the “Welcome to Wander” page 1. Create a password for Wander. This password is not the same as your password for ArDrive. **Note:** Make sure to write down your Wander password as it can’t be recovered. 2\. You will be asked to either create a new wallet or load a wallet. ## Add a Wallet - To make a new wallet with Wander, press the “New Wallet” button, then copy the seedphrase and download the keyfile. **Note:** Make sure to save your seedphrase and keyfile somewhere safe as they are not able to be recreated if lost. - The new wallet will be loaded into Wander automatically, but will have no AR. ## Log into the ArDrive using the digital wallet from Wander 1. Visit the [**ArDrive login screen**](https://app.ardrive.io) 2. Select the Wander option 3. Log in with your ArDrive password --- # Attach A Drive Canonical URL: https://ardrive.io/help/using-ardrive-apps-using-ardrive-attach-a-drive/ Category: Using ArDrive Apps Section: Using ArDrive Description: Attach a shared public or private Drive to your account from a Drive link. Attach Drives is the way to receive a Public or Private Drive that has been shared with you. There is no cost to attach a Drive to your account or download any files from that Drive. ## Use a Drive Link to attach a Drive The easiest way to attach a Drive to your account is to simply click on a Drive link that has been given to you. Drives are automatically attached if they are accessed via a Drive Sharing link. Once you click on the link (and [login to ArDrive](/help), if needed) your new Drive will appear under a ‘Shared Drives’ heading in the left side menu. ## Use the new button to attach a Drive If you have the 36-character Drive ID, you can also use the **+NEW** button to attach a Drive. Go to the control center of ArDrive and click the **+NEW** button. Four options will appear including ‘Attach Drive’. Click on Attach Drive and a popup box will appear at the center of your screen. The pop up will have a place for you to put your 36-character Drive ID that your friend shared with you and a box that allows you to name the Drive. You can choose any name you wish for this Drive. It doesn’t have to be the same name that the original creator used. Once you press ‘attach’ the Drive will appear under a ‘Shared Drives’ heading in the left side menu. --- # Create A Snapshot Canonical URL: https://ardrive.io/help/using-ardrive-apps-using-ardrive-create-a-snapshot/ Category: Using ArDrive Apps Section: Using ArDrive Description: Create Drive snapshots to speed up future syncing for large public or private Drives. ## Snapshots are rollups of your Drive - it makes syncing your Drive in future sessions much faster. **QuickSync** a roll up of your Drive's ArFS metadata into a single snapshot, meaning much faster syncing times for your Drive in future sessions. This feature greatly improves the experience of power users with large Drives, all thanks to the ArFS protocol. Snapshots can be created for both your public & private Drives and decreases the sync time needed when you share/attach Drives with snapshots. 1. Select the Drive you want to create a snap shot for, hit the **New** button, and select **Advanced**, and **New Snapshot**. 2. Select **proceed**. 3. ArDrive determines the size & cost of uploading the Snapshot, click **upload** to proceed. 4. Your Snapshot is created & the next time you login, you'll notice faster Drive syncing. --- # Create An Arweave Manifest Canonical URL: https://ardrive.io/help/using-ardrive-apps-using-ardrive-create-an-arweave-manifest/ Category: Using ArDrive Apps Section: Using ArDrive Description: Create an Arweave Manifest from a public Drive or folder to give permanent files friendly paths. # Overview Arweave Manifests can unlock new and unique experiences that can only be made possible on the Permaweb. An Arweave Manifest is a mapping of Arweave Transaction IDs and friendly names. This map is put into a standardized, JSON structure and permanently stored on Arweave, and it allows users to create logical groupings of content. Arweave Gateways can interpret this structure, so users can then reference individual transactions by their file name and/or path. Manifests allow you to use friendlier URLs like... The file names and paths would each be represented within the Arweave Manifest, making it easier for developers and users to reference their content by the names used on their local file systems. Navigate to your Public Drive, and click the “New” button and "Advanced" and select “Create Manifest”. 1. Enter in the name for your Arweave Manifest and click “Next” 1. Select the location to create the Manifest out of. 1. Selecting the top level of the Drive will create a manifest out of all of the Drive’s content, including subfolders. 2. Selecting an individual folder will create a manifest out of all of that Folder’s content, including subfolders 2. View and confirm the price of the Manifest and upload it to ArDrive After the Manifest is created and uploaded, it will have a special icon indicating that it is an Arweave Manifest. Congratulations! You can now access any of the Arweave Transactions referenced in the Manifest using the its friendlier file path and name. [See our technical article on for more references.](/help/understanding-the-permaweb-general-arweave-manifests/) Clicking the “Preview Link” for a Manifest will load the default `index.html` page referenced within the Manifest. Clicking the “Download Link” for a Manifest will download the default `index.html` page referenced within the Manifest. No `index.html`? No problem! The first file contained in the Manifest will act as the default file that is loaded when the Manifest is previewed, and all other files can still be referenced with their friendly names. **NOTE:** Check the paths that your Manifest is using by checking the raw endpoint: `turbo-gateway.com/raw/ManifestTXID` into your browser. # Updating a Manifest Need to make changes to your permanent web app or NFT collection? ArDrive makes it easy for users to quickly adjust a specific file or folder, and then recreate a new manifest containing the updated transaction IDs and friendly names. Just like any other file in ArDrive, a new Manifest revision can be created by reusing the existing Manifest name, allowing permanent version control over your site or app. # Want it Custom? The ArDrive CLI also allows you to create a manifest out of a given Public Drive or Folder, and takes it a step further. With the CLI, developers can quickly create and export a preview of their manifest. This preview can be modified in a standard text editor to fit any use case, like adding other Arweave Transaction IDs that aren’t contained within your Drive, or changing the friendly names. Once the manifest has been customized, the CLI can quickly upload it, using the custom “Arweave Manifest” content type. ArDrive is built around “Drives” - permanent digital storage containers. Drives are like hard drives on the permaweb where you can put all kinds of files - audio, video, photo, code - and group them in folders to your heart’s content. You must create a Drive before you start uploading your files. ## Getting Started To get started with ArDrive, you’ll first want to create a Drive. Hit the **+NEW** button and a drop down list will appear with our seven options. Select “New Drive” A pop screen will appear that gives you the option to name your Drive and to select whether it is public or private. ★ If you select “Private” then only you will have access to that Drive. If you select “Public” you are giving access to all files in the Drive to everyone forever. An automatic URL will be created for this Drive and this URL cannot be deleted. When you create a new Drive, the default is for it to be private. Be careful! If you accidentally publish your information to a public Drive there is no delete button. ## New Drives added to the Sidebar Once you create the Drive it will now appear on the sidebar list under personal Drives. After [creating a Drive](/help/using-ardrive-apps-using-ardrive-create-new-drive/), you can upload any file you want to it, but you can keep your Drive organized by creating folders. Click on the **+NEW** button and choose “New Folder”. Once you create a new folder it will appear under the Drive that you have assigned it to. Select the folder that you have created, and it will take you another level down into that folder. After [creating a Drive](/help/using-ardrive-apps-using-ardrive-create-new-drive/) you are ready to upload a file. Click into the Drive where you want to upload your file. Now click on the **+NEW** button and select “Upload file(s)” ArDrive will now allow you to select from the file(s) on your desktop. Select which file you want and press “Upload” ArDrive will then calculate the cost of the file(s) you want to upload to the permaweb. A pop up screen will appear that will confirm the file(s) you have selected, the size of each file, and the one-time cost. You will now have the ability to cancel the transaction at no cost or upload the file for the cost indicated. ## What file sizes can I upload? Upload limits depend on upload method, browser, and platform. See [ArDrive App Limits](/help/faqs-help-and-troubleshooting-guides-ardrive-app-limits) for the current limits. Our calculation of file size may be slightly larger than the file size listed on your computer given the unique way that data is stored and encrypted on the permaweb. ## How long does it take to upload? Decentralized, permanent data storage doesn’t happen in an instant. Upload speeds are dependent on your internet connection. ArDrive waits til there are 15 confirmations on your uploaded data to ensure there are no forks in the chain. **NOTE:** Do not leave from the uploading screen until the upload completes. If you exit the browser before it has completed your file will not be uploaded. You will not be charged if a file does not fully upload, but any progress towards uploading your file will be lost. ## Understanding File Status ArDrive tries to track the status of each transaction in order to let you know when your files are stored on the network. - Green status means the file was successfully replicated and mined on the network. - Orange status means the file upload transaction is in progress. - It could take up to 30 minutes for this process to complete, permanence requires patience! - Red status means the file upload transaction may have failed - If a file is not mined, the AR payment made for this file is refunded.
